Aerocaribbean, Your Safer
and More Familiar Option.
Luis Alonso Fernandez, manager of Human Resources.
Luis Alonso Fernandez, manager
of Human Resources, speaks with Soy del Caribe about his job
and the other missions this regional airline is pulling off.
Q.- What responsibilities are you supposed to deal with
in Aerocaribbean?
A.- The mission linked to the management of human resources
within Aerocaribbean is that of recruiting, keeping and developing
the proper workforce that guarantees a sustained increase of
the company’s productivity and economic efficiency. The
hired personnel must work in an atmosphere of discipline, dedication
and security, all that in line with what our customers demand.
The vision and scope of our activity is aimed at making this
division a top section marked by professionalism, human values
and the quality of the services we provide. Bear in mind that
this management effort is focused on a number of tasks that
range from constant upgrading of the entrepreneurial layout,
staff recruitment, training development in sync with the workplace’s
requirements, job assessment in terms of results and professionalism,
a rewarding policy based on results and achievements, hygiene
and safety in the workplace, and care for workers.
The company features a number of developing regular routes that
have been stepped up recently with the addition of ATR-72 and
EMB-110 aircrafts. The sale and marketing network has been enhanced,
the technical and professional training of the workforce has
been upgraded, and the customers are now praising the kind of
service we’re providing them with.
These topics allow us to cash in on a number of opportunities
that competition opens up for us, based on the country’s
increasingly higher development and planned tourism policy.
This gives us the chance of putting all our capabilities to
the test by broadening our ties with Central America and the
Caribbean through the ALBA project. The State’s support
has made the streamlining of our fleet possible and has opened
up the possibility of joining IATA and a number of other international
organizations that guarantee interlineal relationships with
other air carriers. Therefore, the management of human resources
in our company is getting stronger as we act progressively in
our quest to meet much higher results and objectives in coming
years.
Q.- How does the ALBA project apply in Aerocaribbean?
A.- The ALBA project stems from the Battle of Ideas our country
is bringing off. For our company to cope with this task, we
carried out an all-out refurbishment of the air terminal in
the nation’s capital. This remodeling has put Aerocaribbean
in a much better position to provide a comfier ambience for
our passengers that’s marked by kindheartedness and good
service.
Those are values our company shares and that clinches faithfulness
among those passengers that rely on us rather than on other
companies. All passengers linked to Operation Miracle are transported
through our terminal. That’s an extremely important task
full of political implications for the region. Bear in mind
these are low-income people the country has given them the opportunity
of curing their health problems due to the inability of their
countries to care for them. In this particular task, Aerocaribbean
has played a major role in collaborating with Cuba’s healthcare
system, not only in Central America and the Caribbean, but also
in other countries around the world.
Q.- Is it suitable to say Aerocaribbean is part of the
far-reaching integration process of Latin America and the Caribbean
that Cuba, Venezuela and other nations are giving a boost to?
As a matter of fact, we’re a major part of that project.
We’re doing our bit in this development and integrating
process. We’ve flown and catered to people in all those
countries, Caricom nations, ALBA members. We’ve flown
to other Caribbean islands, as well as to Central America, to
Bolivia. All cargo also goes through us, including medications.
Our aircraft have taken off to those countries that have needed
our help when they have been hit by natural catastrophes or
wicked weather conditions. In many cases, our jetliners have
been the first planes to get there with humanitarian aid.
Q.- Does Aerocaribbean meet the requirements of international
institutions in charge of controlling aeronautical transportation?
A.- Yes, it does. We abide by the guidelines established by
IATA, ICAO and other international organizations within the
industry. I mean, our company complies with everything that
regulates and has something to do with the aviation sector.
On a regular basis, some airlines audit our system whenever
ties with those carries are set up, and those auditing processes
have shown our company is doing pretty good. We’ve gone
through a number of controls in terms of air safety and security,
and that’s a major and basic element for our airline.
Our slogan, at Aerocaribbean, goes like this: “The Safest
and Friendliest Choice.” And we honor that phrase every
step of the way through the professional service our employees
provide all the time.
